I love my little sister

Soo my pretty little sister Kathryn and my pretty little friend Nicole came to visit last weekend. They drove 8.5 hours and showed up at 12:30 on Friday night. They are nice. We had good times that included shopping, hair dyeing, enchilada making, and general hanging out. Nicole's new boyfriend called 5 times in a 1 hour period. I think the combination of being drunk and newly smitten was not good for him. Ah well. We went to church in the morning where an old lady named Vera insisted that we meet a random girl who appeared to be in the same age range. Her name was Brittany. She was nice. It was kind of awkward that the old lady made us meet. Especially since Kathryn and Nicole don't even live here, and I don't actually go to the University here. Whatever. Then Kathryn and Nicole ate Emily-made peanut butter sandwiches and were on their way. It was a short, but very happy visit. Yay yay yay. :)

who needs water

Yay a story!
So I had the day off on Monday, and I went out shopping. Good, right? Right. I get home from the lovely morning of shopping and there is a yellow notice hanging on my front door. It is from the water company. It says: "Shut off. You have not applied for service." So I'm like hmmm, I've been here for three weeks and everything was fine. But now I don't have water. I called my supervisor, and she called the water company to get it all figured out. Apparently the water company does not give warnings before they shut off the water. Good policy. But yeah, so they told her they could turn it back on Wednesday, and she was like no, that is not acceptable. So they say they'll turn it back on sometime on Tuesday. Oook. So meanwhile, I'm trying to avoid going to the bathroom and figuring out where I can take a shower.
Then I go to the doctor. What does the doctor tell me to do? Drink more water. Ha! For reals.
I went to a lecture at the university last evening, so since I was already on campus, I went to the campus church when the lecture was over. That's where I washed my face and brushed my teeth before I went home to bed. Luckily the bathroom was deserted so I didn't have to explain myself.
This morning I went to work early and used a staff shower in the residential treatment center. Again, no one bothered me.
And then when I went home for lunch, I had water again! Woo!
This story loses some excitement, I know, because everything turned out well. But I felt good about it in the beginning. I'll work on my storytelling.

So I'm in Urbana. I've been here for almost two weeks. And I still feel overwhelmed at Cunningham Children's Home because I just keep going to new meetings or groups where I learn more and more. But mostly I learn how much I DON'T know. Chaplain Gay is pretty much the nicest person ever, though, so that is helpful. :)
I start my actual orientation/training September 6, so hopefully that will help me feel more prepared and knowledgeable.
My apartment is nice. It has an extra bedroom, so anyone who wants to come visit will have a place to stay (read: come visit).
My blogging skills are very inadequate, so I think I'm done for this first one. Ok? Ok.
